8月1日 All good things...... must come to an end.
It was inevitable... after more than 8 months of not posting anything to this blog, I have finally decided to lay this pathetic excuse of a blog to rest.
Over the past few months I've been working on another blog. Well, another two blogs that is. One is my photoblog which can be seen at www.vividrealism.com. This is where I'm going to regularly post photographs that I'v taken. Not really pictures of a personal nature, but other stuff I'v taken over the years. I also have another blog going, and one which I hope I keep on posting to. It can be seen at blog.vividrealism.com. This is where i'll be posting stupid every day random stuff... a regular blog that is. Bookmark those sites and visit often!!! and dont' forget to leave comments!
As for this blog, I'm going to delete all my posts. They'll be transferred over to the other site anyway. I'm going to keep this site only for personal pictures. Stuff like whatever is already on right now. Eventually, it won't be a public site though.
Anyways, its been fun, reading all your comments and I hope you continue to do so at my other site... later all... 11月15日 Weekly Pic for November 15, 2005A bit late, but better late than never... This sunset picture was taken from a boat on our way to Alcatraz in San Francisco... In the distance can be seen the Golden Gate Bridge... man, i have like so many pictures to post from my trip still... but just haven't gotten around to doing it... slowly, but surely... 11月9日 something to do when u'r bored at work...its a kinda interesting and fun survey on how the mind thinks... check it out...

oh btw, eid mubarak! 10月21日 what's on...monday: prison break tuesday: amazing race wendesday: invasion, lost thursday: survivor, apprentice
i haven't watched this much tv since high school... damn, i need a life 10月16日 Weekly Pic for October 16, 2005so i'm bored on a sunday evening... my msn status is set to 'away' as i type this entry... call me anti-social, but there really isn't anyone to talk to on my msn list at the moment... sometimes i wonder why i even bother to sign in... i mean, if i'm going to set my status as 'away', what's the purpose of even logging on?... haha... sounds like anti-social behaviour... lol... anyways, here's a pic i took a few months ago, which i really wanted to post for the longest time, but never got around to it... i swear, its the last toronto skyline pic i'll ever post... i think i have like 3 skyline pics
10月12日 happenings over the last week...hello all... bin a long time... a lot has happened... time is moving so fast that weeks go by and it feels like a couple of days have just passed... i cant' believe its been almost 10 years since my first year at UofT... just another (random) reminder that i'm gettin' old!... at least eveyrone is gettin' old with me :D
so yeah, this week saw the devastation caused by the earthquake in pakistan... it was saturday morning when i first heard about it... a friend told me on msn right after sehri (pre-dawn breakfast during ramadan)... so i checked out cnn's website to learn of their 'developing story' where 49 people were killed in a earthquake of magnitude 7.6 ... i was thinking to myself, "wow, only 49 died in such a powerful earthquake"... but as we all know that figure had risen exponentially over the next few days, and it is still rising... at the moment its around 25,000... and they are predicting it to go over 35,000... its actually quite sad to see the news reports coming out of pakistani news channels... trying to make sense of claims of whole villages being whiped out is hard enough but quite evident when u watch these reports and see the damage... anyways, a lot can be done still... there are many ways we all can contribute... here's a link to a site that is sending materials over to pakistan this friday via its national air carrier PIA: www.namf.ca ... you can also contribute monetarily... check out khadeeja's blog for more information about what can be done...
other stuff that's been going on... i finally got my satellite dishes to work... not sure how long that'll last... ramadan is in its 2nd week now... its gettin' easier and easier now... first few days were the hardest... sleep deprivation is taking its toll tho :P... but its all good... no complaints here :)
10月4日 Ramadan Mubarak... Happy Navratri... Merry Rosh Hashanahjust wanted to wish all the muslims out there a merry ramadan mubarak ... all the hindus out there a happy navratri... and all the jews out there a happy rosh hashanah... and everyone else a happy thanksgiving... peace on earth, and good will towards men and women...
this entry is probably as politically correct as i'll ever be...
anyways, here's a panoramic view hoover dam that i took while i was on my trip... the dam is about an hour away from las vegas and on the way towards the grand canyon... so it couldnt' hurt drop by and take some pics... we didnt' actually go inside the dam for the tour, but just looked at it from the outside... its supposed to be the biggest dam in the world i think... a lot of other interesting facts about the dam (like the fact that crossing over it you gain/lose an hour since u'r crossing time zones, and also it sits on the border between nevada and arizona)... but here's the pic... the large body of water you see is lake mead... click on it to enlarge...
9月15日 Back in good ol' T.O...yo yo yo... guess who's back... back again... shady's back... tell a friend...
ok, that was a pathetic intro, but yeah, i'm back in toronto... been here for a couple days now, but just hadn't gotten around to updating my website cuz i was just too tired... anyways... i'm still too tired to actually go into all the stories from my trip... but i have posted some pics of the guys and me in the "mega stars Road trip 2005"... there's so much to tell about what we did in the 9 days we were gone... 5 different cities!!!... aight, i'm out for now cuz its gettin late, but i'll be back to fill y'all in on what we did... so stay tuned!
keep visiting my site... oh and btw, if u wanna know how to add video to your site, or add a custom html module (like the counter i put up), or even make some of u'r modules translucent, here's a link that teaches u how... its only for msn spaces tho, so all y'all that chose blogger... boo to you!
9月2日 Last Blog Entry for a While...I've added a new album, just a few pics... I went to my brother's graduation ceremony recently for the toronto police college... if u have internet explorer, u can check out the video i made of the services pipe band... anyways, it was a really interesting ceremony... very orderly... loved the way they marched in and out of the buildings... and how their parade commander shouted instructions out at the top of his lungs!... the chief, bill blair was there also... he actually handed out the badges to all the new recruits... anyways, check out some of the pics below...
on another note, this will probably be my last blog entry for quite a bit... as i'm heading to Chicago and sunny side California tomorrow... hopefully i'll have a lot more pics to show you guys (all 4 of u who view my blog; yeah i know, i'm not a popular person, but life isn't a popularity contest, at least that's what i try to convince myself... hehe)... but yeah, see yall in a week or two... lates!
oh and btw, i do actually go to lectures at ISNA :P... and god willing, will do so this year too!
8月27日 ISNA Conference + west coast tourSo you may or may not know... but only one week left till i depart for Chicago... ISNA Conference!!!... I hope to gain some spiritual guidance there, as well as hit up some of the clubs... i hear club ISNA is a happening place :P... hahaha... kidding aside, it should be an interesting trip... 6 of us are going - 6 guys who can hardly get along for more than an hour, much less 3 days... i foresee much 'bloodshed' on this road trip... lol...
so we'll probably leave like 2 am on saturday morning (why?, i haven't the faintest idea)... and getting there about noonish... maybe catch a lecture or two... check out the hotel lobby scene... lol... good times with good friends...haha...
so here's the best part of this trip... it doesn't end with ISNA... damn straight son!... we're flying off to LAS VEGAS from there... woohooo!!!... we're gonna spend 1 night in vegas.. then we're gonna drive up to the grand canyon and maybe check out hoover damn on the way to LOS ANGELES... we'll probably spend like 3 nights in LA, do a whole tour of the place, universal studios, hollywood, etc... oh, and who can forget, the PRICE IS RIGHT!!!... thats correct, dont' forget to tune in to watch us on the show, we might just be called to COME ON DOWN!!!...and finally, on our last leg of the trip (sounds like the amazing race eh?, all we need are some roadblocks and detours) we're gonna fly over to SAN FRANCISCO!!!... and there's a bunch of things to do there i hear... the good thing is that everything is planned out, straight hour by hour, where we're gonna be, what we're gonna do, etc... god willing, it'll be a fun trip... pray for our safe return and maybe i'll get u a souvenir :D
unfortunately, i wont' have access to write to my blog, but i'll try to keep a journal of events... and then post em later... along with pictures...
8月18日 Recent Gun Violence in Torontohmmm, my first blog entry in more than a month.. not sure what i'm gonna talk about... i think i'm just gonna wing it... nothing interesting really happened today... aside from the usual gun violence... so what's up with that anyway?!?! why is there so much violence out there with guns... like a few days ago, this muslim got shot... just some random shooting in some random park... i honestly dont' get it... usually crime goes up for a reason... either high unemployment or like bad economy maybe... they say that these guns are coming in from the US and that's the cause for the sudden surge in gun violence... but my question is, why is this happening all of a sudden, and what are they doing about it?!?... actually, they did catch a couple of guys (who were muslim btw) bringing in guns from the US a few days ago... maybe once winter starts, the violence will go down again... people are always out and about in the summer time... i dunno... maybe the summer heat is getting to people and the snow will calms things down... haha... that'd be an interesting correlation to prove: increase in temperature causes an increase in violent behaviour... stranger correlations have been made, so u never know ;)
7月20日 Summerlicious...So I had my first 'licious' experience today... but first, a little background... Every summer, Toronto has this event which they call Summerlicious. Its where participating restaurants in the city bring down their prices for certain dishes on their menu. Sometimes they bring them down by as much as 50%. These restaurants are sometimes fine dining, or like international cuisines. Similarly, in the winter they have what's known as Winterlicious, with exactly the same concept.
So for dinner, a select 'elitist' group of friends went to this restaurant called 'Acquolina'. Feeling a little apprehensive at first, I took into the idea that since I wont' do this everyday, I may as well try it to see what it feels like to dine at restaurants that don't serve indian/chinese or a mixture of both :S. So this restaurant was pretty much italian. I ordered pizza. Not just any pizza tho. This was pizza primavera! Sounds interesting right? Well, it was a pizza with a bunch of veggies on it :(... and it tasted so... blah! Anyways, the best part of the dinner was dessert. It was called Tartufo Classico and it was basically chocolate ice cream covering a rasberry sorbet of sorts.
Oh and just cuz someone thinks i like to cause controversy, here's more of it: here's a little conversation that took place between 2 "friends/cousins":
RH: Thanks guys for coming out... I hoped u liked the food...
SH: <with some real attitude, cutting RH off> Why, did YOU cook it?!?!
RH:
SH: I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!
hahahaha, that was the highlight of the evening!!! ... ok, u really had to have been there to understand that...
BTW, summerlicious is on till july 24th, so check it out if u want... here's a link:
7月13日 Weekly Pic for July 10, 2005I forgot to upload the weekly pic last sunday. Actually, I didnt' really forget, but rather had no time. I was up till like 5:30 am on Sunday (yes, I know I had work the next day) trying to 'fix' my X-B-O-X so that I could play games on it that I purchased at a minimal price. Anyways, this new picture is actually 13 pictures stitched together to form one big panorama of the front campus at UofT downtown (the better looking campus btw, beats UTM and Scarborough any day of the week and twice on Sundays :P). But yeah, I also managed to convert the jpg to a movie, so check that out also. Its pretty neat. Below is the pic and underneath is a link to the movie. Click both to check em out.
7月4日 Fahrenheit 451I just finished reading 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury tonight. I thought the book was interesting when I read what it was about. For some reason, I've been inclined to reading novels about dystopia. In the past year I think I've read '1984' and 'Brave New World' also. I guess I like reading about how people struggle through oppression and what drives them to their attempt to free themselves from it. Anyways, I also read the book because of its title. The documentary 'Fahrenheit 9/11' took its title from this book and I thought the book might have a somewhat similar subject. Not really. 'Fahrenheit 451' is about a futuristic world in which firemen have reverse roles of what they have in reality. That is, instead of putting out fires, they create them in order to burn books and the houses the contain them. Books of any kind are not allowed and are banned and wherever the firemen receive word of houses that contain books, they set out to destroy them. Interesting concept, no?
It was something different from what I would expect and maybe thats why I kept on reading it. Like who expects firemen to create fires? Maybe that alone got me all interested in the book.
The plot moved quite fast as did the character development and I liked the fact that it was a relatively short novel but expected much more maybe in terms of plot? I dunno. Based on that however I'm not sure if I'd recommend the book. I wouldn't say I struggled to finish it, but I didn't rush to do so either. I think I've had enough of novels about dystopia though.
Here's the link to amazon in case you were interested: Fahrenheit 451 7月1日 Weekly Pic for July 3, 2005I found this old picture and thought it was worth
of being a 'weekly pic'... its sad that I haven't gone around to
updating my site with any new pictures, but the fact to the matter is
that I haven't even *taken* any new picture lately and keep resorting
to my old ones. Maybe this July 1st long weekend I'll have chance
to go somewhere to take some pics.
I have been working on a new set though. And its almost done, so stay tuned!
oh and ... have a happy and exciting CANADA day weekend! 6月24日 Victorious! So yesterday I went to go fight my this ticket I got... I was stopped at a 4-way intersection for making a 'rolling stop'. The cop asked for my license and driver's permit... I gave it to him and he looked at it... Meanwhile, I'm like pleading with the officer... asking him to let it go, because I"m poor as it is... and I cant' afford a ticket... He was like, "that's waht they all say"... so he then looks at my permit and sees that it wasn't currently validated... so he goes, wher'es the sticker? ... i'm like oh crap!... hoping that its in my glove compartment, i go to check... and thank god it was there... so i stick it on to the permit... and then he gives me a choice... he goes, "so i can either give u the ticket for a rolling stop, which comes with 2 demerit points, or i can give you the ticket for not validating u'r permit, which has no points"... surprisingly and naively, i'm like, "which one is better you think?" ... hahaha... anyways, he gave me the latter, failing to validate permit... so i had a $110 ticket on my hands which i decided to contest... so i called their office and booked an appointment with the prosecutor, called a 'first attendance meeting' so that was yesterday... my first attendance meeting... there were about 15 other people there... people were called in alphabetical order... finally my name got called and i went into this small room where it was just the prosecutor and i... he's like, so u got charged for not validating u'r motor vehicle? ... and i'm like ... "yeah it was actually the permit which didn't have the sticker on it... the car had the sticker on it tho" ... and he's like ... "really?" ... and i'm like "yeah", showing him the permit and exactly which sticker i had left off... i basically brought in everything, u know, just in case i needed some sorta evidence or whatever... so he's like ... "actually, the ministry is supposed to stick it on to the permit, not you" ... was like anyways... that's my court story... a victorious moment in my life... now i gotta figure out what to do with the $110 i just saved :D 6月14日 Goodness Gracious, Great Balls of PAINT!this past weekend i went paintballing in milton... there were about 50 other guys there... here are a few statistics to sum up the event: number of hits on the mouth: 1 6月9日 Am I a Racist?...Try this test (put in bogus information for name etc... and just go straight to the test)... its about 18 questions but the end result might surprise you (as it did for me): http://www.alllooksame.com/frameset-register.html i got 3 out of 18 right ... which they define as 'inversely amazing'... and supposedly its not easy getting that many wrong ... so i'm pretty proud of myself :D but back to the question: does this make me a racist? ... I personally dont' think it does. Why?... Sure there are different races in the world. But not being able to tell one apart from another doesn't imply that I am discriminatory to any particular race. Maybe i'm just a little ignorant. So maybe I should take the time to find out about other races. After all, God split us into races and tribes so that we may get to know one another and appreciate the differences... no? But i'm still not a racist 6月6日 Weekly Pic for June 5, 2005I've been busy. I probably not an excuse because uploading a picture shouldn't take that long anyway. Fact to the matter is, I haven't even taken any photos recently. So I'm left with putting up a *really* old picture. This was taken with my Nikon Coolpix 2500 camera and it was during my graduation. We were walking, single file, across university front campus when I decided to take a picture of Convocation Hall. I'm hoping by next week, I should have some new pictures. But here's the pic for this week: 5月29日 Weekly Pic for May 29, 2005I took this picture with my macro conversion lens again. One of the quirks with this lens though is that when used with the Canon S1 IS at full wide-angle, then you can see vignetting at the corners. I made some modifications with photoshop to this picture also. It has become a habit for me, but I think everyone does it. By the way, I have no idea what the name of the flower is. Anyways, I always put the picture on my other website, so the pic can be viewed here: http://individual.utoronto.ca/rehan/siddiqui/photos/LT_IMG_2913.jpg Also, I added a bunch of other pics I took at the park I went to last week. I find flowers the easiest pictures to take. First of all, they don't move. Secondly, they are usually outside, so when taken during the day, there's an abundance of light. Maybe there is an art to them I don't really know. Ah well, check em out here: http://individual.utoronto.ca/rehan/siddiqui/photos/sets/flowers But yeah, here's the weekly pic: |
